With Bill at the Nils Lofgren concert, Bob was left to his own devices–and muses. Breaking with tradition, he did not play Neal Black’s “Jesus and Johnny Walker” as is his habit in Bill’s absence. Instead, after a nod to Nils’ work on Springsteen and Neil Young, Bob dug into his roots (rhymes with foots) playing some early seventies Americana and some contemporary Americana. There was also a soul set of Ray Charles, Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding, Al Green and Tony Joe White. Yes, we said Tony Joe White. Apologies to all whose phone calls and texts weren’t answered, but the number was so overwhelming, Bob couldn’t mash all the buttons and respond at the same time.

It’s Nora Jane Struthers week!. She’s the first verified rock star to visit the show, so we kick-off this week’s edition with “Belief”, a single from her most recent release. Also, as our devoted listeners know, Bob really likes birthdays — particularly his own. Leading up to this year’s annual 10 day celebration of it, we tip our hats to today’s birthday buddies: Robert Johnson, Chris France, and Ricky Nelson. See you at the garden party

It was a dark and stormy night Wednesday, but Bob and Bill weathered the turbulence outside from inside the studio. Alas, dear listener, so did the gremlins. They played havoc with the gear, and we ended up with something pretty unlistenable. If the recording had been up to our impossibly high standards, you would have heard us say happy birthday to Rita Coolidge, Little Walter and Judy Collins, who sang Bob’s mother’s favorite song.

The “Motown 60” TV special sent Bill back to his misspent youth when he would drive aimlessly around Piqua listening to the Four Tops, the Supremes, and other soul stars of the 60s. Meanwhile, Bob seemed miffed by two Gerry Rafferty covers, including Waylon Jennings’ version of “Baker Street.”

After a quick word about the delightful Maria Carelli’s visit the previous week, Bill and Bob look ahead to this weekend with tunes from the Way Down Wanderers and Dale Watson, both of whom visit the Southgate House Revival.

Bob is out of town this week, but that doesn’t mean Bill is all by his lonesome in the studio. His new favorite musician Maria Carrelli joins him in the studio to talk about her new album “Strings on My Guitar” and to play a few songs. Listen in and Maria will be your new favorite musician, too.

Bill discovers Maria Carrelli at a Shake It Records showcase prior to her album release on April 12. She will visit the studio April 10 to preview “Strings on My Guitar” and talk about her musical journey from Mariemont to Ludlow.

Bob flew solo for this week’s show which he describes as a tour de force. Alas, dear listener, there’s no recording of said force. Bill was out sick, and Bob pressed the wrong button. Yep…it’s Bob’s fault.

The tributes to surf guitar legend Dick Dale, who died at 81 this week, came from around the world, and we featured three of his early tunes. In addition, Bill previewed his trip to Baltimore to see Fleetwood Mac with Neil Finn of Crowded House and Mike Campbell of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers.
