Bill is back behind the microphone for the first time in three weeks, and his sonorous voice is, well, music to our ears. The guys waste no time getting down to it by first paying tribute to Bob’s favorite Belgian and inventor of the saxophone, Adolph Sax, on his birthday. Songs by the Rolling Stones, the Blasters, and Big Jay McNeely are testament to the awesomeness of Adolph’s invention. The real star of tonight’s show is Bill’s Aunt Helen. Streaming the show from Springfield, she became a member of WAIF to support community radio and Bill and Bob’s on-air antics. As a thank you, the guys played the Quebe Sisters ridiculously excellent cover of the Hank Williams classic “Cold, Cold Heart”. It’s Aunt Helen’s favorite song.

Bill was in Akron probably buying tires so birthday boy and BS&B Fifth Beatle, Jack Greiner, sat in on our scintillating tribute to lawyers. Jackson Browne, the Byrds, Warren Zevon, Drive By Truckers, and others weighed in on the exalted profession. We also celebrated Dwight Yoakam’s birthday along with Jack’s. (Hint: Jack is younger).

Did you hear that long, mournful wail last night?  That was us when we realized we messed up the recording of last night’s show.  “So what?”, you’re saying. “You’ve done that before.” True, we have.  But never when the wonderful and delightful and very talented Maria Carrelli was in the studio. Now, you don’t get to hear her perform some of her songs and talk about opening up for Robbie Fulks (yes, that Robbie Fulks) August 15 at the Woodward Theater.  If we can get a copy of the show from the station’s archives, we’ll post it here.  In the meantime, we endeavor to persevere.

Bob is solo again this week.  His partner in FCC violations is in the wind, and no one has any idea of his whereabouts.  It’ll take more than a missing cohort to keep him down and off the air.  Tonight, Bob battles static and the weird atmospheric conditions to bring you a veritable cavalcade of highly excellent music.  Much of it is new stuff.  So, kick back, ponder Bill’s secret location and surreptitious adventures, and enjoy choice selections by Angela Perley, The Bottle Rockets, Lucinda Williams, Hayes Carl, Delbert McClinton, the Allman Brothers Band, and the Allman Betts Band.
