Bill flies solo for this week’s show since Bob is on a boat. In France. Meandering down a river. Probably sipping a crisp chardonnay. He’ll regret taking that trip when he hears about Bill’s playlist for tonight which includes songs by Rodney Crowell, Brandi Carlile, Birds of Chicago, and Weezer’s excellent cover of Toto’s “Africa”. C’est la vie, Bob.
There are only a few days before Bob leaves on a French vacation. Before he takes off, he surrenders his playlist of “songs to cruise down a river in France by”. Also, the guys get political and take Roseanne to the woodshed.
With Bob’s 60th birthday only a few days away, we use tonight’s show to celebrate and wish our favorite Gemini a happy birthday. As someone probably once said, “It’s not how old you are. It’s the music you play.” Or something like that. Probably.
Bill has Bruce Springsteen on the brain as he anticipates sitting in the audience for “Springsteen on Broadway”. Bob plays music from two seminal albums released on this date in 1966: The Beach Boys’ “Pet Sounds” and Bob Dylan’s “Blonde on Blonde”.
April showers bring May flowers. April also brings the latest inductions into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Bob and Bill have spent mucho time ruminating about this year’s inductees, and they share their thoughts about who should be in as opposed to who is added each year. And Dick Dale is at the top of that list.
As loyal listeners, you have come to expect three things: great music, rapier-like wit and technical difficulties. You always get the great music, the other two are sporadic. But tonight, gentle listener, you’ve hit the trifecta! Bill’s microphone stopped working, so don’t focus on the weird speech-like sounds emanating from deep in the background. Do, however, enjoy the great music and fabulous interview with John and Brenda Madden of JBM Productions, the premier purveyors of live roots music in the Tristate.
Bob rings in the new year all by himself since Bill is probably out somewhere waiting for a ball to drop. Regardless, celebrate the coming year as Bob touches on the artists who passed away this year as well as some of the artists who will be in town in the coming year.
It’s Christmas Eve, and Bob is off celebrating with his family. But fear not…Santa’s favorite elf, Bill, is at the helm with his better half, Jannine. She’s probably the biggest supporter of this show, so it’s nice to have her on board tonight for some scintillating conversation and interesting Christmas stories.
