Bill went all in with 20 songs, each of which began with the word “All,” an idea plucked from his latest obsession: Listening to the iPod alphabetically. Loyal listener Tom Borgman identified the gimmick first, and won a valuable prize.

While Bill was feelin’ alright at the Dave Mason show, Bob paid musical tribute to California (his recent home away from home), wished happy birthday to the late greats Bobby Womack and Willie Johnson (Howlin’ Wolf’s first guitar player, BEFORE Hubert Sumlin), and recounted John Lennon’s “The Beatles are more popular than Jesus Christ.” Between recent cuts from Allison Moorer and Eilen Jewell and a literal out-of-this-world classic from Lightnin Hopkins, friends and guests of the show Farmer and Adele got their shout out for winning this year’s Ameripolitan award for Best Western Swing Band. Congratulations Keenan and Grace!

Ghosts attacked the machine at the beginning of the show, but Bill remained calm and bounced back to play good music on the first episode of Year 7. Unfortunately, none of Bill’s words were picked up by the microphone, so this show is all music. “Thank You” from Sly & the Family Stone was scheduled to open the night as a gift for everybody who has supported BS&B for six years, but that was lost to the glitch. However, the evening closed with the haunting “Family Affair,” another reminder that we’re all in this together.

Is it possible to pack too much awsomeness into a single radio broadcast? Radio theorists have argued about this since the time of Marconi. But Bob and Bill are doers, not talkers. OK, they are talkers, but last night they were also doers. They have done proved that you can have unlimited awsomeness in a single radio show. To wit, last night the guys celebrated the show’s sixth anniversary AND Bill’s birthday. They did this while hosting a studio chock full of guests and playing a heap of great music and juggling a sometimes fickle audio board. Who says men can’t multitask? The real question is, “How much awsomeness can you handle?”

Cripes, not again!! You know how there are some things you can’t get right no matter how hard you try? Well, we seem to have issues recording this show. Two weeks ago, we ended up with 25 5-minute tracks that had to be edited together before we could post it. This week, the flash drives were the culprits. As Rosanne Rosannadanna was happy to remind us, “It’s always something!” But turn that frown upside down, gentle listener. Next week the guys celebrate this show’s sixth anniversary, and, like everything they do, they’re marking the occasion in style. The studio will be chock full of guests and music and reminiscences. Be sure to tune in 6-8 PM next Wednesday on WAIF-FM (88.3) or stream the show.
