Bob paid tribute to Big Joe Turner (111) and John Fogerty (77) on their birthdays, Bill wished Bob Dylan an early 81st (May 24), and The Who returned to Cincinnati for the first time since the Riverfront Coliseum tragedy in 1979.

When the cat’s away … Bob had a party with Clairy Brown and the Bangin’ Rackets, Blind Willie McTell and more. The new single from Adia Victoria spiced things up along with Chris Smither, Habibi, Blackfoot Gypsies, Gillian Welch, and Parquet Courts. Bob replayed the great soulful Little Richard cut “I Don’t Know What You Got” and otherwise tried to keep the background fans, cellphones and general paper rustling to a minimum. It’s what radio was meant to be if radio was meant to be broadcast standing up in a crowded elevator and no one else in the elevator knew or cared you were trying to do a radio show. All part of the charm.
